FORMER Chief Minister John Le Fondré has today announced his intention to stand as Connétable of the Parish of St Lawrence.
Mr Le Fondré said he was “honoured and delighted” to have been asked to stand by a number of St Lawrence parishioners after Deirdre Mezbourian confirmed that she would be stepping down from the role on Saturday.
Mr Le Fondré had previously served in the States Assembly as Deputy of St Lawrence since 2005, before becoming a Senator in 2018.
He served as the Island’s chief minister until 2022, when he lost his seat in the election, having stood for the Jersey Alliance party.
He is currently chair of Les Vaux Housing Trust and has been involved with a number of parish activities, including being the project manager for the successful St Lawrence Millennium Footpath project in Waterworks Valley, Honorary Treasurer of the Parish Magazine, and had extensive involvement with Battle of Flowers.
He is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Together UK Foundation, which was established by Baroness Arlene Foster.
“I have a proven track record of serving both my Parish and the Island, and look forward, if elected, to again serving the community where I have lived for all of my life, working on behalf of parishioners, Islanders and tax and ratepayers,” John Le Fondré commented.
“St Lawrence has a fantastic community spirit which makes it
such a special Parish to live in and I hope that Parishioners will allow me to serve both the Parish and the Island as a whole for the coming term.”
Mr Le Fondré said his election campaign colours will be red and white.
