THE number of bike thefts on the Island has risen sharply by around 60% – from 88 to 141 – from 2024 to 2025.

The statistics were released following a recent Freedom of Information request submitted by the JEP.

The majority of recorded thefts each year occurred, as expected, in St Helier – where there were a total of 76 thefts recorded in 2025. This number was up from the 66 reported in 2024 but down significantly from the 106 thefts in 2020.

In contrast, the number of bike thefts in St Saviour increased by from two in 2024 to 31 last year.

Earlier this week, States police posted an appeal on social media for a stolen black Cyrusher Voyage Trekking electric bicycle.

In the post it said it was stolen from Neuf Chem, behind St John’s Manor between the hours of 1.30pm and 3.30pm on 6 February.

It is the fifth stolen bike appeal made since the start of the year.
