SPRINTING star Steven Mackay is certainly back on track, as he competed in the 60m and 200m events last week at the South of England Athletics Indoor Championships.

The Caesarean began his competition with the 60m. With his injury still present, a tame step out of the blocks saw Mackay get gapped at the start with little time to catch up, finishing tied-fourth to just miss out on qualification with a time of 7.1 seconds.

Despite not getting off to the best of starts, Mackay quickly gathered himself the following day for his main event of the competition, the 200m.

Even though his first step was “wobbly”, Mackay got out the blocks well and maintained his pace to secure an impressive time of 22.59 seconds, shaving a whopping 0.5 seconds off his time the previous week to earn second place and qualify for the semi-finals.

Everything seemed to go his way, but a bump in the lane caused some swelling in his ankle. To preserve himself for the upcoming British Indoor Athletics Championships, Mackay decided to forgo the semi-finals.

It may not have been the dream ending he hoped for, but Mackay was pleased with his competition.

“I’m very content and happy with how I performed in the South of England championships, I’ve improved so much from Glasgow and it’s definitely boosted my confidence,” Mackay reflected.

“Mentally, I’m definitely back. I’m sleeping really well, I’m enjoying my training again and I’m always smiling. Now, with the British Championships coming up, it’s time to properly lock in, stick to the two-week plan and trust the process.”
