PLANS to remove a historic petrol pump from outside a home in Gorey Village have been rejected.
Applicant Cherrylyn Seatter asked for planning permission to re-render and paint the outside of the listed 1 Hilgrove Terrace, on the corner of Gorey Village Main Road and Old Road, and also remove its historic green petrol pump.
However, Planning have refused the minor application, concluding that “the proposal would result in a negative impact on the character of the historic building and the loss of historic feature which contributes to the special interest of the listed building, and character of the wider area.”
Although the application had described the pump as “unsafe”, Planning said it had received confirmation that the pump had been decommissioned and, therefore, posed no risk to the public.
The government’s Historic Environment Team had objected to the application due to a lack of “proper justification for the proposed works”.
An application made in 2013 to remove the pump had been approved but this was made under the previous 2011 Island Plan and no longer current.
