A COMMEMORATIVE garden has been bought by the parish of St Helier for £1 – and will be “restored to its former glory in time for the summer”.

Allix Shipyard Garden, which is located at Havre des Pas, has been transferred from the Vingtaine de la Ville to the parish for a nominal fee.

The commemorative garden sits on the site of a 19th-century shipyard, which was in operation during the Island’s shipbuilding heyday.

The area will be barricaded off for around eight weeks while essential repairs are carried out at an estimated cost of £7,000.

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft said: “I am delighted that the Parish is now able to take ownership of the Allix Shipyard Garden, and I look forward to seeing the area restored to its former glory in time for the summer.”
