JERSEY is facing the possibility of a “weather bomb” tomorrow night, with the Island threatened with the most severe weather conditions since Storm Ciarán, prompting stark warnings for Islanders to stay indoors and away from the coast.

Emergency services, Ports of Jersey and Jersey Met officials were locked in preparation meetings today, ahead of Storm Goretti’s arrival in the island tomorrow evening with winds of up to 90mph.

The storm’s most dangerous phase is expected between 6pm and the early hours of Friday, coinciding with a late-evening high tide.

Islanders are being urged to avoid slipways, coastal paths and exposed headlands, particularly during the storm’s peak.

Government advice is for Islanders to stay at home from 8pm on Thursday until the early hours of Friday morning – and to stay away from the coast.

Jersey Airport also confirmed it is due to close early at 6pm on Thursday evening. Operations director Ashley Maggs said that the airport was expected to reopen on Friday morning.
