ONE of Jersey’s best-known beach café fundraisers is back — and this year, the humble fish finger sandwich will support Islanders living with neurological disorders.

Rhona’s at the Beach has named the Sophie Reid Neurological Association as its beneficiary for 2026.

In a social media post sharing the news, Rhona Hewit, who runs the cafe, said that she hopes for “another record year of fundraising”, having raised over £10,000 last year for Enable Jersey.

All of the proceeds from Rhona’s fish finger sandwiches will go to the association, and this year she is also asking Islanders to donate their leftover Christmas chocolate to be sold on to raise even more.

Ms Hewit has managed to raise over £60,000 for local charities in the last 20 years.

The Sophie Reid Neurological Association supports islanders with neurological disorders to receive the best care they can and help to fill the gaps along the way.

It is being spearheaded by Sophie Reid, who was diagnosed with an astrocytoma in December 2024. She then began documenting her cancer journey online, before forming the ‘Jersey Brain Tumour Sport Group’ to connect islanders suffering with brain tumours.

In her post announcing the fundraising, Ms Hewit said: “Sophie Reid is a young mum with her own hairdressing business with an incurable brain tumour whom I met on my own cancer journey.

“Rather than just accept her diagnosis she has become a warrior for local people suffering with neurological disorders and set up her Association to help.”

The Association is currently registered as a not-for-profit group with the Jersey Financial Services Commission, and Ms Reid has said she hopes they will receive charity status soon.
