JERSEY’S football programme was decimated this weekend as relentless rain and muddy surfaces forced multiple matches to be abandoned or postponed.

Friday Night Football provided one of the few uninterrupted fixtures of the week, as St Clement produced a dominant display to beat St Ouen First 6-0 at a freezing Springfield Stadium.

St Clements’ victory sends them top of Premiership 1 although Jersey Wanderers have two games in hand as they trail by one point.

The standout disruption of the weekend came in the Jersey Wanderers vs Grouville Premiership clash, which was halted after 65 minutes with Wanderers leading 5-1.

A Jack Hardisty hat-trick and Harry Scott brace had put the league leaders firmly in control before worsening conditions rendered the pitch unplayable. Both clubs now await confirmation on the fixture’s outcome.

Cup action was also hit hard, with Rozel Rovers First vs Sporting Academics called off at half-time at 0-0, as the weather continued to deteriorate.

Despite the downpours, a handful of fixtures survived. In Premiership 2, St John First secured a much-needed 3-0 win over Sports Club of Jersey in the Tradesmen’s Trophy, marking their second victory of the season.

Trinity First also progressed in the cup with a narrow 4-3 win against St Lawrence First.

The busiest action came in Championship 2, where several games managed to go ahead. First Tower recorded the biggest scoreline of the weekend with a commanding 10-1 victory over Trinity Reserves.

St John Reserves were also convincing in a 5-1 win against Rozel Rovers Reserves, while St Paul’s Reserves continued their strong form at the top with a 5-3 success over Grouville C.

A full report and further updates will follow in the JEP next week.
