A NEW locally owned pizza restaurant looks set to open in the former Pizza Hut site at the Waterfront.
Hotel group Seymour will open DIP DOH Pizza Co. next to the Cineworld entrance, subject to planning permission.
The hotelier – which also owns the Pomme d’Or, Merton and Greenhills – has applied to to change the signage outside the restaurant.
The new pizza restaurant will have room for 104 diners inside and 38 outside. It is envisaged that the premises will be open Wednesday through to Sunday from noon until 10pm, and run a takeaway service throughout the week.
Pizza Hut closed its doors in July 2022, one of many closures across the British Isles as Britons moved away from the chain’s once-popular dining experience.
Recently, the troubled business announced that it was closing half its UK restaurants after being bought out of administration for the second time this year.
It is understood that Seymour Group has signed a nine-year lease with Jersey Development Company for the former Pizza Hut site.
DIP DOH will be the latest of several new businesses to open in the Waterfront area, including Tintos Soft Play, Fenn and Co. and Pablo’s.
However, some premises remain empty, including the former TGI Fridays and The Bar.
The cinema building was scheduled for demolition under JDC’s Southwest St Helier Waterfront plans; however, the States-owned company first attempt to get planning permission was rejected in 2023, and JDC is currently focused on redeveloping Fort Regent.
However, it has shared plans for the first phase of the Waterfront redevelopment: a 50m outdoor heated swimming pool on the site of Les Jardins de la Mer.
