A MAN who bit a woman’s hand during an argument has been found guilty of assault but cleared of locking her in his flat and a string of other attacks.
Daniel Paul Wheeler (35) stood trial in the Royal Court this week, accused of attacking the woman during a series of confrontations over two years.
He was said to have spat at her, threatened to break her jaw, held a pillow over her face and refused to let her leave his flat after throwing her phone out of a window.
After just over four hours of deliberation, the jury returned majority verdicts following a four day trial.
They found him guilty of one count of assault but not guilty of false imprisonment and five other assault charges.
Mr Wheeler had already admitted punching and damaging her television during one argument, but denied all other charges.
The incident in which he was convicted involved an argument in the early hours, during which the woman said Mr Wheeler became loud and agitated following a night out.
She told the court that she put her hand over his mouth to quiet him before he bit her.
Mr Wheeler was released on bail ahead of a further hearing in January, when the malicious damage charges will be considered.
His bail conditions include having no contact with the woman and not attending her home or workplace.
