A NEW council has been created to support the adoption of artificial intelligence in Jersey.
The Jersey AI Council will act as a central group to bring together AI projects across the Island’s public and private sectors.
It aims to help people work together and share knowledge so that the island can get the most benefit from AI, while reducing potential risks.
The council has no policy or decision-making mandate but will provide a way to use the combined knowledge of its members to strengthen the island’s AI skills and capabilities.
It will focus on areas such as promoting AI in Jersey and addressing barriers to AI adoption.
Digital Jersey chief executive Tony Moretta, who will chair the Jersey AI Council, said: “Our island stands at a pivotal moment in the AI revolution and, while many businesses and organisations understand the significance of AI and are individually advancing their capabilities, progress is fragmented.
“We believe we can achieve substantially more if we work together – and this is something that comes out strongly from our work on AI to date.”
He added that the council hopes to “ensure Jersey is a rapid and responsible adopter of AI technology”.
Jersey AI Council partner organisations include Digital Jersey, Jersey Finance, the Jersey Financial Services Commission, the Jersey AI Forum, the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner, Government of Jersey, and the Institute of Directors.
