“CONSTRUCTIVE discussions” are taking place to open the toilets in Nude Dunes at La Pulente for the public, the Infrastructure Minister has said.

The former toilets were given planning permission to be converted into a café, with a condition that publicly accessible toilets were part of the development.

However, the Nude Dunes eatery that opened in June 2023 closed just five months later after the business went bust. Since then, the toilets in the building have been closed.

Since then, St Brelade Deputy Montfort Tadier has been campaigning to get them reopened.

In a formal question put to Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan this week, Deputy Tadier asked for an update on discussions between the owner of the building – who is currently appealing against an official notice forcing her to stop using the former café as a home – and the government.

Mr Jehan replied: “As a result of discussions, the property owner is now actively engaging with their insurance provider to clarify the requirements for obtaining public liability insurance that would be needed to operate the toilets.”

Giving details of actions taken to get the toilets up and running, he added: “Constructive discussions have taken place involving Jersey Property Holdings and other relevant parties and representatives.

“Modifications to the plumbing and electrical systems have been identified which the owner asserts must be addressed before the facility can be opened to the public.”

He continued: “Efforts continue to be made to ensure the toilets within the permanent structure are opened to the public. As of 18 August 2025, the owner installed a portable toilet which has been available for public use and is regularly serviced.

“JPH are awaiting advice on whether the owner’s contractual obligations have been discharged.”
