A BLUES album recorded in Jersey has just scooped a prestigious American music award – and Islanders will have the chance to hear the artist behind it perform live this week.
‘Ten Chicago Blues Classics’ was recorded by Jersey-born Blues harmonica virtuoso Giles Robson and triple Grammy nominee John Primer in the Golden Apple Suite in the Pomme D’Or.
After more than 6,000 music enthusiasts cast their votes, the album was last month announced as the winner of a Blues Blast Music Award in the ‘acoustic blues album’ category – making Jersey’s Mr Robson the first winner of the award from the British Isles in its 18-year history.
“I’m incredibly grateful for having the opportunity to work with such a great musical legend like John and learn from him,” he said.
“It’s truly a great honour that I don’t take for granted and to win an award together is very special and I’m extremely grateful to him.
“I’d also like to thank John’s wife and manager Lisa for her steadfast belief in the project and her great support.”
The pair were nominated for the prestigious award in August, and recently embarked on a European tour which arrived in the UK on Saturday 4 October.
Mr Robson will be performing at the Salty Dog on Wednesday 15 October and tickets are available online.
