OWNERS of Renault cars in Jersey have been caught up in a cyber attack that has caused some personal data to be leaked.

The French carmaker said the breach occurred through one of its third-party providers, resulting in the release of customer information. However, it confirmed that no financial details were compromised, as the company does not hold such data.

The incident followed two other major cyber-attacks on car manufacturers over the past year, including Volkswagen in late 2024 and Jaguar Land Rover in early 2025.

Renault said that those affected not only included car owners, but also anyone who had entered a competition, joined a waiting list, or otherwise shared data with the company.

In a letter sent to affected individuals seen by the JEP, Renault warned that the leaked information could include: names, dates of birth, e-mail and home addresses, phone numbers, and vehicle identification and/or registration numbers.

The vehicle manufacturer said that the “isolated” breach had now been contained, and that it had taken steps to prevent any further issues.

Customers have been advised to be wary of any unsolicited data requests, especially those made by email or phone.

Local car dealers said that they had been advised by Renault not to comment when the JEP reached out.

Renault UK Managing director, Adam Wood, issued an apology over email.

“Data privacy is of the utmost importance to us. We deeply regret that this has occurred and wish to apologise again,” he said.
