JERSEY cricket star Asa Tribe has taken the next step in his impressive rise after being selected for the England Lions – the national team’s developmental squad.
The Lions team will be touring Australia this winter, in parallel with the full squad’s Ashes tour.
The 21-year-old Glamorgan professional had a remarkable run of form with the bat in September to thrust himself into contention for the Lions squad. He is one of four players called up to the Lions for the first time and he and his teammate Ben Kellaway are the first representatives from Glamorgan in a Lions squad since 2012.
Tribe has been a key part of the Jersey national side for several years, most recently featuring in the ICC World Challenge League tournament last month.
The England Lions will stage development camps in October at the ECB Performance Centre at Loughborough University before touring Australia for a four-match programme, including an Ashes warm-up fixture against the England men’s side.
