A CONCERT featuring a West End star will be held next month to celebrate would what have been Gerald Durrell’s 100th birthday this year and the life of Jersey composer Derek Lawrence.

THE Jersey Opera House is set to host the Music in Action concert on Saturday 11 October.

This concert will be a dedication to one of Music in Action’s founding members Mr Lawrence and his career.

The initiative unites 150 schoolchildren and musicians from both Corfu and Jersey and gives local children the chance to ‘listen to music first-hand’.

It will be an animal-inspired programme carried out by the Jersey Chamber Orchestra, under the lead of world-renowned conductor Eamonn Dougan.

The Gala Concert is going to be hosted by West-End star Rob Houchen, who is best known for his role as Marius in Les Misérables performances.

The DaCapo Academy singers, Janvrin School and Victoria College will perform the Durrell suite, a tribute to Mr Durrell composed by Mr Lawrence, while Mr Houchen will perform Gnu Song and Hippopotamus Song. Several members of the Corfu choir are also travelling to Jersey for this performance.

There will be two performances on the night, one at 6pm and one at 8.15pm.

Ranging between £18-£45, tickets are available now through the Jersey Opera House box office or on musicjersey.com
