NORTHERN Leaf has said it will be able to provide the Planning Committee with “additional information” following its failed attempt to obtain retrospective permission to install chillers at its Retreat Farm premises.
The medicinal cannabis cultivator made the comments after the Committee rejected its application to build a sound-dampening enclosure over the chillers, which are subject to an enforcement notice by the Planning Department.
Northern Leaf had tried to overturn the notice, which was imposed by Planning in the wake of noise complaints from neighbours, but Environment Minister Steve Luce rejected the appeal last year based on the recommendation of an independent planning inspector.
Five applications from Northern Leaf were passed at this week’s meeting, including retrospective permission for a new shed, landscaping to hide external pipes and the extension of an existing roof to screen machinery.
But its application regarding the chillers was met with a tied vote (3-3), meaning it was rejected and the enforcement notice remains in place.
Responding to a request for comment from the JEP, a Northern Leaf spokesperson said: “We are very pleased that five of our six applications were unanimously approved and we understand that the Committee needs additional information on the chiller application.
“We will very quickly be able to provide that information which we trust will address their needs.”
