FLYERS might complain about the price of a snack at Jersey Airport or longingly remember the days when its upper deck was free to access – but they have it better than most UK passengers and they certainly have it better than Guernsey.

The Telegraph published a ranking of the 30 biggest airports in the UK and Channel Islands, which saw Jersey ranking 10th behind the likes of Liverpool, London City and Aberdeen. Guernsey placed 21st out of 30.

Airport Director Ashley Maggs said it was “fantastic” to see the Airport recognised.

The Telegraph’s team said that with a small airport, Jersey was “a place you fly to for a holiday, rather than from“. A “fascinating fact” they picked out was that a disused hangar was built by the Luftwaffe during the Occupation.

And Jersey’s average Google review score was the highest in the ranking, jointly with London City, with both scoring 4.2 stars out of 5.

And despite wind, fog and a short runway, Jersey Airport got praise for 71% of its flights being on time, which puts it ahead of “many bigger rivals”, according to the newspaper.

The survey took into account 21 factors ranging from the speed of free wi-fi to the journey to the city centre, parking fees, and bars and restaurants relative to the number of passengers.

They gave out bonus points for another seven criteria – including having high-tech CT scanners installed and having received a prestigious architecture award.

Mr Maggs added: “We’re proud of the service we offer and grateful to all our colleagues and partners who help make it happen every day.

“With the Departure Lounge redevelopment now underway, we’re excited to keep improving and creating an airport Jersey can be proud of.”

The poll winner was Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
