A FRENCH skipper has been fined £1,500 for catching fish in Jersey’s waters without a licence.
Rodrigue Laurent Gerard Sevalle (46) appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, pleading guilty to the illegal fishing.
French fishing vessel Galapagos and her crew were escorted into St Helier Harbour on Tuesday after being caught, with the boat detained overnight.
Galapagos had been spotted close to boundary of Jersey and France’s territorial waters and was “quickly” intercepted by fisheries officers after entering Jersey’s jurisdiction, the government’s marine resources team said.
Vessels must have a licence, issued by Jersey’s government, to fish in the Island’s waters.
Galapagos was released after the fine was paid and Sevalle later sailed back to Granville.
