ANY large parcel that is not packaged in a cardboard box will incur a £5 surcharge from next month, Jersey Post has announced.
The postal company said the fee was being introduced because poorly-packaged items could be processed through automated sorting machines, and instead must be processed manually.
The “manual handling charges” will start on 12 May, and will be enforced on all large parcels weighing between 2kg and 30kg.
In an email sent out to customers, Jersey Post said it was already being charged by commercial partners for these items.
The email continued: “Packaging your items correctly in a sturdy cardboard box means that your parcel can go through the sorting machines smoothly and helps to avoid manual handling charges.”
