A SECOND World War military truck at the site of a new museum at the bunker in St Catherine’s has been badly damaged in an early-morning “break-in”.

In a statement posted on Facebook which has garnered over 1,000 likes, Jersey Bunker Tours described how four “young adults” climbed over fencing at the site at 4.40am on Monday and spent nearly an hour vandalising the 80-year-old GMC truck.

CCTV footage, they said, captured the entire incident — including two individuals jumping on the truck’s bonnet “until it was concaved,” breaking the roof, entering the cab and attempting to start the engine.

“The damage will be expensive to repair, but there is some relief tonight, knowing the four of you’ll soon be caught,” they wrote.

The damage came as Jersey War Tours — the non-profit team behind the museum — is due to open the St Catherine’s Bunker site to the public following restoration work.

The site, which includes a network of tunnels built by German forces during the Occupation, is being developed into a heritage attraction by Jersey War Tours in partnership with Jersey Seafaris and with the backing of Ports of Jersey.

The project aims to turn the site into a “hub for tourists seeking an immersive and educational experience”, according to Ports, and will form part of a broader “land to sea” tourism offering in the area.

Jersey War Tours was founded in 2015 and is the only non-profit group on the Island offering military history tours.
