a parking spot marked 'disabled'

A NEW taxi rank has been created at the Esplanade as part of efforts to make town “better connected”.

The new rank will “better serve the public” and the nearby International Financial Centre, according to the government.

Two spaces will be removed from existing taxi ranks at Library Place, with one remaining “to meet demand”.

The decision followed data being collected on taxi rank usage.

Three new disabled parking bays will also be introduced at Library Place, with a maximum stay of two hours.

The government said as part of its Common Strategic Policy commitment on “revitalising town”, changes were being made to enhance accessibility and transport provision.

Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan said: “These improvements aim to make St Helier more accessible and better connected.

“Increasing disabled parking, refining taxi rank locations, and enhancing cycling provisions will support both residents and visitors in navigating the town more easily.

“The new disabled spaces will be identified with blue paint, and the markings have been very successful in raising greater awareness of the bays.”

There will also be a “slight” extension of the loading bay to assist deliveries in the area and additional cycle parking is to be introduced once works at New Cut are complete.
