PORTS of Jersey is expecting more than 9,000 passengers to pass through Jersey Airport this weekend ahead of half term.

And more than 40,000 people are expected to arrive and depart throughout the week.
Ports has urged passengers to be prepared before travelling and to leave “plenty of time” to check in their hold luggage and clear security.

“There may be queues at busy times, but Ports of Jersey teams will ensure that everyone gets to their flights as quickly as possible,” the organisation said in a statement.

A new family area has also opened at the Airport in advance of the half-term break.

The space – in the departures hall, opposite the café – was created using advice and support from charity Brighter Futures, which works with organisations to improve services for families in the Island.

Ports head of customer experience Sarah-Louise Stubbs said: “I’m really pleased that we are developing a family area in departures where youngsters will be able to relax, draw and read a selection of books before their flights.

“We will be adding more activities to this facility in the coming weeks and would be glad to hear any ideas from young people and their parents about what they would like to see in this space.”

Brighter Futures chief executive Fiona Brennan said: “It’s encouraging to see that Ports of Jersey is considering the experience of families in their designs for the new departures hall, and I’m pleased we could help with ideas for this family area.”

Brighter Futures will also be helping to advise on the development of the main departure lounge later this year.

Passengers will find a QR code on the wall of the family area which takes them to a feedback form.

Advice for travellers

  • Restrictions remain on carrying liquids of more than
100ml in hand luggage. Liquids have to be taken out of
hand baggage and placed in a security tray but do not
need to be in a plastic bag
  • Check you’re not travelling with any banned items
  • Get your boarding card ready for inspection
  • Remove outer layers of clothing, including boots and
    heels, before body scanning
  • Ensure your pockets are empty before body scanning
  • Allow plenty of time to go through check-in
and security, especially during busy periods. Ports
recommends arriving two hours before departure time
for most flights, and 90 minutes for Blue Islands
