FURTHER site visits are due to take place this week at a sinkhole, which opened in town just before Christmas.

The hole, which was caused by a burst water main on Rouge Bouillon, led to a section of road being closed when it appeared by the entrance to College Gardens.

It also resulted in cracks appearing in the walls of the building on the corner of Clarendon Road and Rouge Bouillon, prompting investigations by building control to determine whether or not the property was safe.

In an update on Friday, the Infrastructure and Environment Department confirmed that Clarendon Road remained open southbound towards town.

Diversions continue to be in place and Islanders are urged to travel to the area only if necessary.

Building monitoring is continuing and repairs are being assessed, according to the government, which said further site visits were scheduled this week.
