A 15-YEAR-OLD boy swore at and then punched a bus driver and tried to grab money from the till, the Youth Court has been told.

Legal adviser Samantha Morris, prosecuting, told the court that the boy – who cannot be named because of his age – tried to board the bus with alcohol, but was told by the driver that food and drink were not allowed on board.

She said: “He started swearing at the driver. He tried to take money from the till and the driver grabbed his lower left arm.

“He ejected him from the bus and the teenager punched him in the face.”

The court also heard that the boy was in breach of a probation order imposed in May, for assault and breaking and entering.

He was also previously found with cannabis.

Advocate Paul Nicholls, defending, described the offences as “petty, drunken offending”, and pointed out that the boy had pleaded guilty to the offences of behaving in a threatening and abusive way, common assault and possession of drugs, and had also apologised to the bus driver.

He was released on bail to allow him to engage with the Probation Service and will be sentenced on 26 November.
