A 74-YEAR-OLD woman who bit her daughter during a row has been given a six-month probation order for grave and criminal assault.

Susan Lamy also received a restraining order, banning her from having any contact with her daughter for two years.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that the row took place on 31 May.

Advocate Katie Ridley, prosecuting, said that Lamy became verbally abusive, and when the daughter asked her to leave her home she pushed over a kitchen chair and began waving her arms around.

When the daughter tried to restrain her she bit her on the left hand.

The police arrived and arrested Lamy, said Advocate Ridley, adding: “At interview she said her daughter was trying to push her down the stairs, so she had bitten her.

“She said she pushed the chair over because she was angry.”

The court heard that Lamy had previous convictions but they dated back 30 years, and Advocate Estelle Burns, defending, pointed out that they were for “nothing of this nature”.

She said: “It was completely out of character. It will never happen again.”

She added that Lamy hoped to reconcile with her daughter in the future.

Relief Magistrate David Cadin said Lamy was deemed “at medium risk of a future incident”.

He concluded: “In the circumstances it is appropriate to impose a restraining order.”
