AN assistant minister resigned mid-way through today’s debate in order to back a vote of no confidence in the Chief Minister.
In a major blow to Deputy Kristina Moore, Constable Richard Vibert has announced he has stepped down as Assistant Children’s and Education Minister and Assistant Treasury Minister.
It follows the resignation of Assistant Chief Minister Andy Jehan in November, and Infrastructure Minister Tom Binet, who lodged the no-confidence motion, earlier this month.
In a speech in the States, he said that “absolutely nothing has happened since before Christmas” to help Islanders with the cost-of-living crisis.
“I am sorry to have to say this, but there is a lack of understanding about the cost-of-living crisis in this government,” he said.
Mr Vibert said that another major issue was the lack of progress on affordable housing, adding: “People are frustrated who were looking forward to the possibility of some houses being built during the term of this government, which is now seeming highly unlikely.”
