Islander arriving in St Peter Port Picture: Condor Ferries (36874370)

CONDOR’s new Islander will be out of service until next week due to a technical problem, days after its first commercial sailing.

The ferry operator has apologised to affected passengers.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Condor said: “Sailings affected are from Thursday 26 October through to Thursday 2 November, when she will resume services from Portsmouth to the islands.”

“The limited number of passengers affected are being notified by contact centre staff and offered alternative sailings.

“We regret the inconvenience caused, which is being compounded by poor weather forecast for this weekend,” they added.

During the first week of service Islander berthed in Guernsey for its first scheduled journey, but had to skip Jersey due to a “technical issue”, linked to the vessel’s forward bow thrusters.

The former MV Straitsman left New Zealand in mid-April to sail across the Atlantic Ocean to its new role as part of the Condor fleet serving the Channel Islands.

Now rebranded as Condor Islander, it previously served in the Cook Strait for more than a decade after entering service in 2010.

The vessel was bought by Condor Ferries and the States of Guernsey following a deal made earlier this year.
