A FORMER paramedic who won awards for his long service and good conduct has been jailed for 8 ½ years for sexual offences, including rape.

David Moody (60) has admitted three counts of rape, two of sexual assault and one of sexual penetration without consent.

Moody had a high-profile career as a paramedic and was praised for his work with the Ambulance Service over a 20-year period of employment.

He was on duty on the morning of 17 April 1995 when the vessel Channiland struck rocks off Corbière.

He also received acclaim in January 2008 for rescuing a pensioner from a fire, breaking down the door of a smoke-filled flat in Le Marais and helping the unconscious elderly man, who was suffering from smoke inhalation, out of the burning building to safety.

Moody later became a trainer in violence and aggression for the Health Department and was awarded the Ambulance Service long service and good conduct medals in 2009.

When he appeared in the Royal Court in June, he entered guilty pleas to charges against a female victim referred to only as ‘Miss X’.

He was told his name would be added to the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period to be determined today.
