A FIRE in an elderly couple’s kitchen left one of them with a burnt hand after they tried to stop the fire themselves before evacuating.
At around 1.15 pm today, two White Watch vehicles attended the property on Grande Route De La Cote in St Clement.
Smoke was coming from the kitchen window as crews arrived.
The crews found that the owners had evacuated the property though one had injured their hand.
With the help of two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, crews tackled the fire quickly.
Jersey Fire & Rescue wrote on Facebook: ‘Watch Commander Ryan would like to thank the owners for their fast evacuation and for promptly calling the emergency services, however would like to remind Islanders that if you are met by a fire wherever you are, please don’t attempt to tackle it yourselves and get out, stay out and call 999 as soon as possible.’
