PLANS to develop around 260 new homes on the Ann Street Brewery site have been approved.

The scheme, submitted by Dandara on behalf of Andium Homes, contains proposals for a mixed-use development of 249 affordable homes – including more than 160 one-bedroom apartments – and nine open-market units.

It also includes plans to refurbish and extend the grade-three-listed 1820s Sans Souci house into new headquarters for Autism Jersey.

The planning committee approved the development by four votes to one this morning, after hearing from several Islanders either against or in favour of the application.

This included St Helier Deputy Tom Coles who raised concerns over the density of the scheme.

Deputy Steve Luce described the decision as ‘very finely balanced’ but gave his approval, as did Deputy Mary Le Hegarat and constables Kevin Lewis and Richard Honeycombe – with Deputy Andy Howell being the only member to refuse the scheme.

More to follow in the JEP…
