THE chief executive of the National Trust for Jersey has expressed the hope that the new King will be able to continue his powerful advocacy for the environment.
Charles Alluto, who has met King Charles III on two occasions, said that he had been immediately struck both by his inquiring mind and his passion and commitment for protecting the environment and our built heritage.
‘During our brief conversations, he focused on seeking solutions to key conservation issues, whilst also applying a warm sense of humour which immediately put people at ease.
‘It is to be hoped that our King will continue to be a powerful and forceful advocate for the protection of our environment as our generation seeks to address the current biodiversity and climate crisis,’ Mr Alluto said.
His Majesty is the patron of the National Trust for Jersey and the National Trust for Scotland. He is also president of the National Trust of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
In July it was announced that the then Prince had agreed to become patron of Jersey Heritage’s restoration project to protect and preserve La Cotte de St Brelade, the Paleolithic archaeological site at which he spent time as a Cambridge University student in 1968, under Professor Charles McBurney.
