MORE than 100 Asian hornet nests have now been found and destroyed in Jersey this year.

The number hit three figures when a secondary nest was discovered in brambles in St Martin at the end of last week. Further nests have since been found in Waterworks Valley and St Peter’s Valley.

Meanwhile, French media have reported that two cyclists were left in a life-threatening condition after being stung fifty times each by Asian hornets when they disturbed a nest while mountain biking in the town of Briennon, north-west of Lyon.

A third man also needed hospital treatment after being stung 15 times.
