A DONCASTER man who stabbed his former girlfriend’s ex-partner after flying to Jersey has been jailed for 10½ years.
Liam Carmody was arrested after knifing the man multiple times in the rear car park of the Hotel Ambassadeur in St Clement on 24 March.
He admitted one count of attempted murder and a further count of carrying an offensive weapon.
The Royal Court heard that Carmody stabbed the man repeatedly and only stopped when the knife broke. He then continued attacking him by punching and kicking him in the face, and fled from the scene when guests from the hotel were alerted by the victim’s screams.
One guest – a former soldier who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan – said: ‘This was the worst act of violence I have ever witnessed.’
The prosecution argued that the attack was clearly premeditated, with Crown Advocate Matthew Maletroit saying: ‘This was an attack in cold blood, as opposed to the result of a loss of temper.
‘There was violence in the extreme.’
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Jodie Botterill said: ‘This was a serious, premeditated offence in which the victim sustained life-changing injuries. Today’s sentencing is welcomed and will hopefully provide comfort to the victim as he recovers.’
