Record level of nominations for Pride of Jersey contest

Last year?s awards ceremony was held at Le Manoir de Rooster on Trinity Hill, the home of potato exporters Albert Bartlett

A RECORD number of nominations have been received for this year’s JEP Pride of Jersey awards.

In total, 212 submissions were made across 14 categories for Islanders, organisations and groups going the extra mile to help their community.

This compares to 153 nominations made in the 2020 awards, which were postponed until last year due to the pandemic.

JEP editor Andy Sibcy said: ‘Since they were launched in 2015, the Pride of Jersey awards have been a barometer of the strength of Jersey’s amazing community spirit. In just about every aspect of Island life there is a significant number of Islanders going above and beyond to help others in a huge variety of ways.

‘This year, as we emerge from the shadow of the pandemic, the astonishing number of nominations shows that our community is in rude health. When the nomination period closed, we had more than 210 nominees across the 14 categories.’

The most popular categories for receiving nominations this year were the Community Champion of the Year, Angel of the Year and Volunteer of the Year, with each section receiving at least 25 submissions.

Mr Sibcy added: ‘The sheer number means that you will be seeing the faces of many of the very best of us in the weeks ahead as the team here at the JEP pull out all the stops to gather and publish profiles of this record-breaking crop of nominees.’

Last year’s awards ceremony was held at Le Manoir de Rooster on Trinity Hill, the home of potato exporters Albert Bartlett, and the event was hosted by ex-EastEnders actor Jonny Labey and Jersey-born soprano Georgi Mottram.

The awards’ nomination period closed last Sunday, with public voting due to take place next month.

Mr Sibcy said: ‘Thank you to everyone who has nominated and congratulations to the nominees. Voting will open in August, so please make sure you help us pick the worthiest of winners.’
