A FORMER Deputy has confirmed that she wants to return to the States Assembly as a member of the Jersey Liberal Conservatives.
Angela Jeune, who represented St Brelade from 2008 to 2011, will stand as a JLC candidate for Deputy in St Helier South when the Island goes to the polls on 22 June.
Mrs Jeune served as Assistant Social Security Minister during her first spell in politics, introducing monthly meetings at which Islanders could raise concerns. She sought re-election in 2011, but was defeated by John Young, now Environment Minister, after a closely contested four-way battle.
Having been born in Jersey and educated in New Zealand, Mrs Jeune worked as a dual-registered nurse, mostly in London NHS teaching hospitals, in both general and psychiatric services at senior management levels, and in health informatics. She returned to Jersey from the UK in 1993 with her husband, David, and began working for the Health Department as assistant director of information services.
JLC party leader Sir Philip Bailhache said: ‘Angela is committed to the old Jersey values of straightforwardness and being prudent and careful with money. If elected, she will help to bring spending under control.
‘I am sure that she will get great support in St Helier South.’
At least six candidates have so far declared their intention to stand for one of the five available Deputies’ seats for the new electoral district. Also standing in St Helier South are Senator Sam Mézec of Reform Jersey and independents David Warr, Jo Luce, Chris Hopkins and Deputy Judy Martin.
