MORE than 30 Islanders were offered home-care roles during a recent campaign backed by the government’s Fiscal Stimulus Fund.

The Help At Home scheme has led to 33 Islanders being offered jobs in the sector, while a further 55 existing employees have completed ‘upskilling’ training.

Launched last October, the campaign, supported by £128,000 in fiscal stimulus investment, aimed to recruit up to 100 new home-care staff by highlighting the benefits of being a carer in the Island, such as flexible working hours and ongoing professional development opportunities.

A total of 57 people applied for roles, with 33 offered positions, of whom 25 have already started in their role.

Health Minister Richard Renouf said: ‘Carers play such an important role in helping Islanders to remain living at home for as long and safely as possible, and this campaign has helped to boost the profile of the home-care sector.

‘Although we did not reach our ambitious aim of 100 new recruits, it is positive to see that we have up to 33 new home carers who are dedicated to helping support Islanders in the community.’

The upskilling element of the scheme involved 55 existing carers undergoing training approved under the UK government’s Regulated Qualifications Framework.
