IT is not every day you go out for a mid-week meal in St Aubin and a former UK Prime Minister walks through the door.

But that is exactly what diners at Noya Shapla experienced this week.

Former PM Sir John Major visited the restaurant with his wife, Norma, and enjoyed a prawn kofta and lamb bhuna.

Noya Shapla managing director and owner Johirul Miah said: ‘I got the sense that he was a really genuine and nice person.

‘I was very privileged and humbled that he came to the restaurant.’

Sir John is a former leader of the Conservative Party and served as Prime Minister between 1990 and 1997.

The Majors attended the restaurant with their security team and ordered a three-course meal.

Mr Miah added: ‘They enjoyed it. I mentioned to him that I was humbled to get a photo with him.’

The first curry house in Jersey was opened in 1968 by Mr Miah’s father and the family has continued to run restaurants ever since.
