THE Constable of St Saviour, Sadie Le Sueur Rennard, has died, it has been announced.

The much-loved Islander passed away after falling ill early on Friday.

Flags are flying at half-mast from St Saviour’s Parish Hall which closed as a mark of respect to the Constable who had served since 2011 when she unseated Peter Hanning in a closely contested election.

She was returned unopposed in 2014 and again four years later.

The Bailiff, Timothy Le Cocq, described her as ‘a real character, who expressed her thoughts in a forthright way…a champion of her parish and of the Island and traditional Jersey values in the [States] Assembly and elsewhere.’

Mr Le Cocq said: ‘She was a friend to so many and held a special place in Islanders’ hearts for her singing of the much-loved essential Island song Beautiful Jersey on many a Liberation Day. I will miss her, as will so many Jersey people and my thoughts go out to her family at this time.’

The Bailiff has ordered that all government, public and parish buildings should fly flags at half-mast from 8am on Saturday until sunset on the day of the funeral.

Union Flags should remain at full mast.
