Malcolm Ferey (33084022)

THE chief executive of brain-injury charity Headway Jersey has confirmed he is standing as a Jersey Liberal Conservatives candidate in the general election.

Malcolm Ferey, a former chief executive of Citizens Advice Jersey, will compete for one of the five Deputy seats in his home parish of St Saviour.

During the past few decades, Mr Ferey has undertaken a variety of voluntary work, including serving as a Centenier for St Helier from 1997 to 2001 and helping to organise Liberation Day celebrations.

He said: ‘In March 2020 I was asked to assist with the Island’s pandemic response and help to lead the Community Task Force, which was set up as part of the government’s Covid Team, to co-ordinate a wide range of support for Islanders, underpinned by safe and sustainable volunteering.

‘This has been an Islandwide effort, delivered in partnership with the voluntary and community sector, parishes and businesses. I was proud to receive the Bailiff’s Gold Award for my efforts during this tumultuous time.

‘I have campaigned successfully on many social issues and regularly made comments to media outlets and put pressure on policy-makers to help bring about real change that positively affects the lives of Islanders. My recent work has taught me so much about the problems that people living in this Island face on a daily basis.’

Mr Ferey, who has previously unsuccessfully stood for election to the States, added: ‘I believe that the skills and abilities that I have gathered throughout my career will place me in good stead to make a difference.

‘I am Jersey born and have lived in the parish of St Saviour for a total of 29 years.’

Sir Philip Bailhache, acting party leader for the JLC, said he was ‘delighted’ Mr Ferey had chosen to seek election, adding: ‘His integrity and compassion make him an ideal JLC candidate, and he makes a very positive contribution to our team.’
