USED plastic has become a common sight around our coast – but in recent days beachcombers have begun noticing a new phenomenon… a seemingly never-ending tide of unopened water bottles.

The bottles of Avant mineral water began washing up in huge numbers on Guernsey’s west coast earlier this month, and several have also been spotted in Jersey, the UK and France.

But no one is quite sure where they have come from.

In a post on the Channel Island Beachcombers Facebook page, Sam Reoch said: ‘We are finding them on the west coast here in Guernsey.

‘Our beach-combing friends in France and England are finding them too. Whether it’s a cargo spill, a fall overboard from a passing boat or otherwise, it’s good that we are removing them.

‘Look out for them, our friends in Jersey, if you haven’t already come across any, in this oncoming stormy weather, you are sure to find some soon.’
