JERSEY’S men’s cricketers will prepare for the 2022 T20 World Cup Global Qualifier with summer friendlies against the United States and Namibia.

Neil MacRae’s squad is set to travel to Namibia in early July to complete preparations for the qualifier in Zimbabwe – a competition which will offer two spots alongside the world’s leading nations at Australia 2022. The Islanders reached this stage with victory in the European finals last October.

Namibia reached the second round of the 2021 T20 World Cup in India, while the United States are likely to be drawn into a separate group for the Global Qualifier, based on rankings.

ICC officials have shifted their tournament rotation in recent years, meaning the T20 showpiece is running back-to-back.

MacRae said: ‘Namibia are in the top bracket of T20 sides, which they showed at the [2021] World Cup when they went through the group stages and automatically qualified for Australia. They are certainly at the level of the top two seeds in our qualifier – Zimbabwe and the Netherlands – and we have got to be testing ourselves against those sides.’
