The amendments follow those in England recommended by the Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisation.

It added an extra 1.7 million people in England to the 2.3 million already on the list of people deemed moderately vulnerable. They will now become a higher priority for vaccines.

The extra people were chosen due to risk factors such as race, age, weight and underlying health conditions.

A Government of Jersey spokesperson said that the vaccination programme here had begun with the ‘clinically extremely vulnerable’ category of Islanders, and was being rolled out gradually to the ‘clinically at risk [moderate risk] group’.

But they added: ‘The clinically at risk group has been expanded to ensure the JCVI newly added co-morbidities and conditions are included.

‘As a result, this group now captures a proportionately greater number of people than previously.

‘Jersey has followed and will continue to follow the guidance of the Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisation. We will continue to work closely with primary care to capture all clinically vulnerable Islanders, in line with JCVI guidance.’ All those affected will be written to.
