And now for the men… meet The Real HouseGuys of Jersey

John Liot (29) started The Real HouseGuys of Jersey shortly after the TV programme – which follows the ‘glamorous’ lives of seven Jersey women – aired on ITVBe and ITVHub for the first time.

In what started as a joke, Mr Liot and his co-host, Ollie Watts, have been producing weekly episodes containing light-hearted analysis of the show, covering everything from the booze-filled parties to the quirks and contributions of each of the housewives.

Since its launch, the ‘unofficial companion podcast’ has quickly gained a following, amassing more than 1,000 downloads within 24 hours – making it the most popular instalment on Mr Liot’s podcast network, ‘I’m Glad You Exist’.

‘When The Real Housewives of Jersey was announced, I just thought it would be hilarious to do a sincere companion podcast for it and Ollie didn’t take much convincing to join in,’ said Mr Liot. ‘As time progressed, the sarcasm of the piece really began to come into its own and, when I proposed to Ollie that we create marketing photos for it that mimicked what ITV had done, I think it sealed our fates.’

Among those giving positive feedback was housewife Tessa Hartmann, who gave the duo a proverbial ‘thumbs up’ for their comedic efforts.

‘She slid into my direct messages the evening after episode one came out, apparently accompanied by a bottle of rosé,’ said Mr Liot. ‘But she was amazing about it and had nothing but positive things to say for myself and Ollie. The important thing to remember here is that while the show represents car-crash TV, the people are real. It’s not like these women got together and filmed it themselves, so it’s as much about critiquing the actual show rather than the people.

‘Having a laugh at an ill-conceived idea, especially during the dumpster-fire year that was 2020, is above board for me. There’s no hatred towards these women from myself or Ollie but we recognise the need for a laugh right now and we’re happy to provide that.’
