Travel: Almost all of the UK is now a red zone

The reclassifications follow the announcement that the number of weekly coronavirus-related deaths in the UK had exceeded 1,000 for the first time since June with 1,379 deaths recorded in the week ending 30 October.

Jersey now has a total of 126 active cases. There has been one hospital-related Covid-19 hospital admission since the summer although no one is currently in Hospital.

A combination of the lockdown in England and Jersey’s Covid-19 traffic-light restriction system has caused passenger numbers to fall sharply after the travel industry enjoyed a slight reprieve during the warmer months. Yesterday, only two commercial passenger flights arrived in Jersey – one from Southampton and one from Bristol.

While 13 UK regions have changed to red status, three other areas have been ‘downgraded’ from red to amber.

There are now no green regions in England or Wales but five areas of Scotland remain green. Every region of mainland France is now classed as red.

Anyone arriving in Jersey from a green region can take a Covid-19 test on arrival and re-enter the community after receiving their first negative result.

Passengers from amber areas must quarantine for five days and can only emerge from self-isolation after receiving a negative result from a day-five test. Red-zone passengers must self-isolate for 14 days after arrival.
