Minister to transfer £870K to fee-paying schools’ hardship funds

According to a ministerial decision made by Treasury Minister Susie Pinel, a number of secondary and primary schools in Jersey already have ‘hardship funds’ in place and the money will ensure schools can continue to help struggling parents at a time of potentially increased demand.

The decision adds that any prospective recipients must first demonstrate that they have experienced a significant reduction in their household income and a fund audit will take place to ensure any prospective recipients are compliant with criteria.

Schools with hardship funds include Jersey College for Girls, Victoria College and its Preparatory School, Beaulieu, De La Salle, FCJ Primary, Helvetia, St Christopher’s, St George’s and St Michael’s.

Following the signing of the ministerial decision by the Treasury Minister, on 3 June, £870,000 will now be moved from the government’s general reserve to the Education Department before being distributed to school hardship funds.
