Number of deaths from coronavirus rises to six

Monday’s update on cases showed that three people had died from coronavirus but that figure has now doubled following Tuesday’s update.

Health Minister Richard Renouf said: ‘I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and offer my reassurance that government is doing everything in its power to manage the outbreak to save as many lives as possible.’

A total of 217 confirmed cases of the virus have now been recorded in the Island.

The government has said that it will report the deaths of patients infected with coronavirus to include all deaths where Covid-19, or suspected Covid-19, is mentioned on the death certificate.

Information on the deaths is taken from the official register held by the Office of the Superintendent Registrar. If an inquest is required to establish the cause of death, there may, in some instances, be a delay of several weeks or months before a cause of death is established and registered.

No further information of the patients has been given.
