A proposal and a promise on the beach
An anniversary trip to Jersey took an unexpected turn for 25-year-old Annalisa Dimaria from Surrey on Friday, when her boyfriend of four years Daniel Hewitt proposed on Plémont beach.
With help from Annalisa's Jersey-based aunt Felicina Morris, Daniel organised for Jersey Sandman Andy Coutanche to draw the proposal in the sand - and there was an usual request involving his fiancé-to-be's favourite animal, a goat. When the couple, who use the nicknames Little Mole and Big Mole for each other, arrived at the beach Annalisa was met by the words 'Little Mole will you marry me? I'll get you a...' followed by a large drawing of a goat. According to Felicina, Annalisa, whose parents were watching nearby, eventually stopped crying enough to accept and write 'yes' in the sand. And she now plans to hold her husband-to-be to his promise to get her a goat.
'It was perfect, and absolutely wonderful,' said Felicina.
