Last December Andium Homes tabled their plans for the 9,100-sq-metre former-gasworks site, which they bought in 2017, and a consultation has now been opened on their proposals, which include:

  • An extension to the Millennium Town Park of approximately 1.35 acres (5,463 sq metres).
  • The development of approximately 110 new homes, including affordable housing.
  • Underground parking of 150 to 200 spaces, primarily for residents and shoppers.

Andium’s plans supersede a development brief that was first submitted in 2013, proposing to build a much higher number of homes on the site.

Environment Minister John Young said the revised development brief would be in line with a proposition adopted by the States last year concerning plans for the site. He added: ‘We all know that St Helier needs more publicly accessible open space, and this guidance will help to secure more than an acre of new parkland for Islanders to enjoy. The new requirements will also secure the provision of affordable homes and additional car parking for St Helier residents and shoppers – both of which are in high demand.

‘I am keen to hear feedback from the local community about these additions, which I hope will bring about positive changes in the north of town.’

Comments on the plans can be submitted to the principal planner, Alistair Coates, by email at a.coates@gov.je or in writing to the Department of Strategic Policy, Performance and Population, 19–21 Broad Street, St Helier, JE4 8ND.

The consultation is due to close on 2 April 2019.
