Civil servants strike at Liberation Square

Tensions between the States and its employees have grown after months of heated negotiations over public sector pay deals.

An estimated 800 States employees walked out this morning and joined the strikes.

JCSA Prospect and Unite called the strike last week at the civil servants’ union’s AGM in response to receiving below-inflation pay offers for 2018 and 2019 and a perceived failure of the States Employment Board to follow negotiation procedures.

The two-hour strike is due to finish at 11 am.
